The Scouting Family

The family of scouting involves not only the youth member, but also the parents. These parents agree to abide by the guidelines practiced by the Scouting Movement so that the goals of Scouting are achieved.

Goodna Scouts

Like all families, there are some simple rules that ensure the efficient operation of the Sections of the Group.

The goal of the Goodna Scout Group is to keep the costs associated with delivering the Scouting program as low as possible.

The whole group functions on a purely voluntary basis. All Leaders give their time freely to deliver the various programs, including many weekend activities.

Non-Leader parents help through running the committee, maintaining the buildings, grounds and equipment and assisting Leaders with extra help and transport. Parents also help to recruit the new Leaders.

To maintain the group, weekly fees are charged to provide the proper facilities and equipment.

To keep these costs down, parents must be prepared to contribute time and effort for working bees, maintenance, plann­ing, fundraising and general organisation.

To further reduce cost, the group conducts some fundraising events throughout the year.

Each family is required to assist in this effort to ensure the costs of weekly subscription can be maintained at the low levels that are currently offered.

Fee Structure


A joining form is filled out and signed by the parents before the new person commences in the group. A new member registration fee of $190 is payable. This joining fee covers the member's registration with the Scout Association and the member's personal insurance. The fee is renewed each year (re-registration fee) with the Scout Association and paid by the group from the weekly subscriptions from the members.

Weekly Subscriptions:

Members pay $10 per week. For the 3rd and subsequent child in a family the subscription is $9.

For each child of a uniformed leader the subs are $9 per week.

The subscription pays for;

  • badges,
  • personal insurance,
  • re-registration,
  • section costs
  • property insurance,
  • rates,
  • electricity,
  • phone,
  • basic equipment and maintenance.


This subscription applies each week whether the member attends or not.

School Holidays:

Members only pay during school terms, about 40 weeks per year. Meetings are not conducted during the school holidays.


The Scout Association has quite a distinctive uniform as part of its culture. Proper wearing of the correct uniform is strongly encouraged.

Reasons we raise money;

  • to help with the day to day upkeep of the Den and its grounds,
  • to provide equipment for the sections of the Group,
  • to train our Leaders so that they run effective programs,
  • to pay all the regular bills,
  • all parents are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings.
